Michael Chopra has questioned whether the Newcastle United squad are playing for Steve Bruce after their 5-0 defeat at Leicester City on Sunday.

The Magpies were embarrassed at the King Power Stadium, as Isaac Hayden’s first-half red card and two goals from Jamie Vardy saw them go on to be dismantled by the Foxes.

Chopra labelled the performance as embarrassing and was left asking where the attacking football that was promised by Bruce was after being on the back foot for the majority of each game they’ve played this season.

“Starting to think, after watching that performance are the players really playing for Steve bruce?” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“What happened to the attacking football he wanted to play when he was appointed manager of my boyhood club.”

Another Newcastle defeat brings Chopra into the limelight once again, he just can’t help himself. After the performance against Leicester though, he definitely has a point. No matter what anyone involved with the Magpies says, that was simply embarrassing on Sunday, and the set of players and Bruce should be hanging their heads in shame over what happened. Even though it was made hard for them with the dismissal of Hayden, the Magpies’ simply looked like they didn’t want to try and were picked apart with ease at times. Newcastle had 30% possession once again in the game [WhoScored], and never really looked like scoring as they had zero corners and were dispossessed 16 times in the clash, nine more than Leicester who had more than double of the ball. That only highlights their struggles going forward, and Bruce must rectify that quickly or face many more afternoons like the one they had on Sunday.
