Newcastle United are still up for sale despite whispers being heard that Mike Ashley might decide to take the club off the market, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claims that while there has not been any progress in a potential sale since the Bin Zayed Group’s interest in the summer, the club is very much still available for any buyer who is interested and can match Ashley’s asking price.

It is understood that an intermediary asked whether Newcastle were still on the market and was told by a third party that Ashley was still looking to sell and “open to offers at the right price”.

OPINION

Newcastle fans will no doubt be sceptical about this update. The club has seemingly been on the market for a long time now and there have been three parties who have appeared to come close to a deal only for nothing to happen. Ashley is open to offers but does not seem as though he is out there trying to get offers because surely if he was serious about a sale, a club the size of Newcastle would attract attention from across the world, not just people like BZG, who never really seemed as though they were properly interested anyway. Newcastle fans are fed up of this situation. If Ashley does not want to sell then he just needs to come out and say that because it just sounds, a lot of the time, as though he is lying to the supporters to make them less furious about his ownership.
