OPINION

Newcastle United need something, anything, to get their season going. It looked for a little while as if that unlikely 1-0 win over Tottenham might have been the spark that they were looking for, but after a dire 0-0 draw at home against Brighton, followed by Sunday’s demolition at the hands of Leicester City, it feels as if optimism at St. James’ Park is at an all time low. As such, something’s got to change and fast. If there is one man who looks as if he could be the firework they need to get things up and running though, it is Allan Saint-Maximin. The Frenchman has been reduced to bit part roles so far this season because of a hamstring injury, but he has been bright in flashes, and the latest video of him in training could be exactly what is needed to give the Toon Army a bit of hope. In the clip, shared to his personal Twitter account, the 22-year-old picks up the ball in a training game an eternity away from goal, and subsequently proceeds to skin absolutely everybody and stick it in the bottom corner. It’s fast, direct, aggressive, and brilliant. Perhaps it’s unsurprising for a player who managed more successful dribbles per game than Lionel Messi last season, as per Whoscored [ASM] [LM], but whether it is or not, it will give supporters a glimmer of excitement that has been desperately lacking so far this term.

Nothing but Newcastle have gathered some of the best tweets below:
