OPINION

Newcastle United attacker Yoshinori Muto endured another half of football to forget in his side’s clash with Leicester City on Sunday. The Japan international was very much a controversial selection when his name appeared in the Magpies’ starting line up at the King Power Stadium, and he did nothing in the opening 45 minutes to justify his place in the side. He’s had a rough time in English football since joining from Mainz last summer, and this game represented his first Premier League start of the season. Was he able to make an impression on head coach Steve Bruce? Not so far, no. The 27-year-old missed a gilt-edged chance to give Bruce’s team the lead prior to Ricardo Pereira opening the scoring with a fine strike for Leicester. Isaac Hayden made a bit of a mess of his shot, only managing to scuff it into the path of Muto. The forward was completely open in the box and all he had to do was stick a leg out and steer the ball past Kasper Schmeichel in the Foxes goal. However, all he did was get his legs in a twist and miss the ball completely. Not an encouraging start.
