Sevilla are set to offload Newcastle United target Rony Lopes in January, according to El Gol Digital.

The Spanish outlet claim on their website that the 23-year-old attacker is not part of the plans of manager Julen Lopetegui, despite only signing for the club at the beginning of this season.

El Gol Digital reports that the possibility of the Portuguese international leaving is rising and that Newcastle will make a move for the winger in the January transfer window if his situation in Spain doesn’t change.

The Magpies were earlier reported by The Chronicle to be continually monitoring the progress of Lopes, and have scouted the winger on numerous occasions.

OPINION

This could certainly make life easier for Newcastle in January if they decide to make a move for Lopes. Sevilla are clearly not impressed with the former Manchester City man, who has struggled to make any sort of impact in Spain since arriving from Monaco in the summer. The 23-year-old has had little to no effect on his new club, featuring for only 11 minutes in La Liga, and 32 minutes in the Europa League – numbers which make it hard for Newcastle to put together a conclusive up-to-date scouting report. Unsurprisingly, the Portuguese international has struggled to make any sort of case for him to persuade Lopetegui to start him in games, having completed no key passes when coming off the bench according to WhoScored. El Gol Digital claims that the Magpies will make a move for the winger should his situation not change, but given his performances in recent games, the only place Lopes will find himself is on the bench.
