Newcastle United centre half Florian Lejeune has posted an encouraging update on his recovery from injury on his personal Instagram account.
The Frenchman has been out injured since going down against Crystal Palace in April, his second major setback in under a year, but is seemingly making positive progress in his comeback.
“French connection loading,” he wrote, alongside a photo of him with compatriot Allan Saint-Maximin in training.
“Soon back with the group 🙌🏼 @st_maximin.”
OPINION
This is great to see. Lejeune has been so unlucky with injury throughout his Newcastle career, with the past year being particularly trying. Just as he was back in the team and going strong as part of a solid back three for the Magpies, he was struck down with another major injury. That’s kept him out from April up until now and, while he’s not ready for a first team comeback yet, he seems to be making excellent progress in his recovery. In his own words he’s going to be back with the group soon, which is a tremendous update for the 28-year-old. Saint-Maximin is now fit and ready to go heading into Saturday’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, and he could soon be joined by his compatriot. The addition of those two players coming into Steve Bruce’s team will improve the side massively, and so this is hugely exciting for the Magpies faithful.
