Jurgen Klopp has been “really impressed” with what Newcastle United have done in the early stages of the new Premier League season.

Although Steve Bruce’s side lost their opening two matches against Arsenal and Norwich, they have since risen up the table with a shock win away at Tottenham and a draw against struggling Watford.

Liverpool play against Newcastle at Anfield on Saturday and ahead of the match, Klopp has admitted he’s been dazzled by the Magpies’ defence and believes that his side are up for a tough match at the weekend.

“They are very difficult to play against. The style is similar to last season. They defend with a big heart. It won’t be easy. I’m really impressed by the things they have done so far,” said Klopp on Friday, as quoted by The Athletic journalist James Pearce via his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

It was definitely a rocky start for Bruce. It was never going to be easy to replace a popular manager like Rafa Benitez in the St James’ Park dugout and it certainly looked as though his reign was set for a horrid start when a few minutes of madness against Arsenal led to them suffering defeat. Newcastle then put in an abject display at Norwich and that led to a lot of supporters calling for Bruce to be sacked just two matches in. However that defeat at Carrow Road led to a massively improved display at Tottenham which led to the Magpies earning all three points thanks to a good goal by record signing Joelinton. The Brazilian forward has been in great form in the early stages of his career in England and is looking as though he is good enough to fill the void left by Salomon Rondon’s exit at the end of last season. Liverpool are likely to win this weekend but it should not raise any more questions about Bruce than there already are.
