Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron is facing the axe for the Magpies’ trip to Leicester City, according to the Daily Star.

The national newspaper claim that Steve Bruce is toying with the idea of dropping the 25-year-old despite viewing the forward as one of his side’s most potent weapons due to the South American’s blistering pace.

The Daily Star report that Almiron is vulnerable to being axed due to his poor start to the season, he has scored no goals and hasn’t registered an assist, and because Bruce wants to take him out of the firing line with the attacker looking short of confidence.

OPINION

After a dismal 0-0 draw with Brighton, Bruce clearly knows he needs to change something in order to spark Newcastle into life this season. After the Magpies battled their way to a 1-0 win over Tottenham, that looked like being the kickstart Bruce’s reign needed but it, unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out that way. Instead, in the three league games that have followed the victory over Spurs, the Magpies have only managed to pick up two points and their lacklustre performance in the draw with Brighton would have rung the alarm bells. It makes sense for Almiron to be one of the players who pay the price for the display against Brighton, as the 25-year-old had a very disappointing day at the office. The 25-year-old managed to only touch the ball 24 times against Brighton and only 30% of his passes found their mark. Considering a Premier League player’s pass accuracy should be nowhere near 30% in any game, as per WhoScored, if he starts against Leicester City then he can consider himself lucky.
