Steve Bruce held a private meeting with Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley after Sunday’s defeat at Leicester City, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claimed on their website that he was livid after game, and blasted his squad before completing his post-match press conference where he admitted he tore into his players.

The Chronicle report that Bruce questioned the desire of his Newcastle United squad behind-the-scenes after the 5-0 defeat against Leicester and ended up having a tense meeting with Charnley in the corridor about the result.

Isaac Hayden picked up a red card in the first half at the King Power Stadium which saw Newcastle collapse and Bruce was clearly angered by the response of his side.

OPINION

Despite the defeat being somewhat expected on Sunday, no one surely could have predicted just how easy it would be for the Foxes to steamroll through Bruces’ side. The Magpies’ boss having a rant at his squad was more than justified, and they must take his words and anger and use it as fuel to bounce back next time out. Some of the goals they conceded were simply embarrassing, and if they do not bounce back from this defeat as quickly as possible, they will find themselves stuck in the relegation zone. This is the first real sign of Bruce losing his patience in charge of Newcastle, and it is exactly what was needed at this moment in time. The squad will know that they weren’t good enough, but if Bruce didn’t express his anger, then they could find themselves in the same predicament again. Some times all players need is a kick in the right direction, and Bruce looks like he has finally got to the end of his tether with his squad after the opening two months of the campaign.
