PSV Eindhoven defender Olivier Boscagli has taken to Instagram to send a message to Newcastle United ace Allan Saint-Maximin.

The French winger is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, but posted a photo of himself without his trademark Gucci headband to his personal account.

The 22-year-old captioned the post: “LV gang sucré”, who translates as: “LV sugar gang”.

Replying to that post, Boscagli said: “Et le bandeau???”, or: “And the headband?”

OPINION

There are few footballers who are so recognisable that they have an accessory intrinsically linked with their identity, but it looks as if Saint-Maximin is already at that level. Edgar Davids had his goggles, Robbie Fowler had his nose strip, and the French winger has his Gucci headband. That’s not to say that he is anywhere near the level that those two modern legends were, but he is quickly becoming as recognisable, aesthetically at least. The issue he has at the moment is that he is unable to do anything to further is reputation as anything other than that winger in the flashy headband at the moment. Sidelined with a hamstring injury, he has endured a frustrating start to life on Tyneside, and the hope will be that he is able to get himself sorted sooner rather than later. This is a player who averaged 4.2 successful dribbles per game in Ligue Un last season, as per Whoscored, and if he can start performing at that level for the Magpies, he would no doubt become known for a lot more than his fashion sense.
