Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall appeared to be over-the-moon with Newcastle United signing Andy Carroll on transfer deadline day.

The singer and known Newcastle fan, as per the Chronicle, sent a one-word message in response to the Magpies’ Instagram putting together a video to celebrate Carroll’s return to Tyneside by simply saying yes in all caps-lock.

“YESSSSSSSSSSS,” wrote Thirlwall on her verified Instagram account.

The Magpies confirmed on Thursday, via their official website, that Carroll had returned to St James Park after an eight-year spell away as he had signed an initial one-year deal with the club.

OPINION

Thirlwall sounds like any other Newcastle fan after hearing the news that Carroll has come home, as it is hard not to feel excited and nostalgic. The 30-year-old previously rose through the ranks of the Magpies academy before being a sensation in the club’s first-team. Carroll scored 33 goals while assisting 21, in the 90 appearances he made for the Magpies senior side. Carroll left to Newcastle to join Liverpool in 2011, and hasn’t been the same since. The 30-year-old has played for the Reds and West Ham during his time away, and his goal record is nowhere near as good. In fact, Carroll only managed to score 34 goals for West Ham, which is one more goal than he managed for Newcastle during his time at St James Park, despite playing 142 times for the Hammers. Aside from not being clinical in front of goal, Carroll’s time away from Newcastle has also seen him riddled with injuries. The 30-year-old’s injury profile covers two pages on Transfermarkt, and it’s worth noting he was stuck on the sidelines due to an ankle issue for over 250 days last season. However, if Carroll is going to get his career back at track, his best chance of doing that will be at Newcastle.
