Valencia are considering a late swoop for Newcastle United defender Javier Manquillo, according to Levante EMV.

The Spanish outlet claim that the La Liga side are in the market for a right-back to replace the seriously injured Cristiano Piccini, who under went surgery on Wednesday.

Levante EMV reports that Valencia are also considering moves for Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj and Roma full-back Davide Santon.

European clubs have up until midnight on September 2nd to complete any transfers, whereas Premier League sides have already completed their business after their window slammed shut before the start of the season at the beginning of August.

OPINION

With English clubs not being able to complete any deals until January it seems highly unlikely that Steve Bruce would sanction an exit for any of his players. Having said that, it appears that Manquillo is the third option for the Spanish club, with both Hysaj and Santon looking more viable options for the La Liga club in the next three days. Even if he is the last option, if there were any position that Newcastle are strong in, it would be right-back. The arrival of Emil Krafth in the window meant that the Magpies now have three available right-back’s, with DeAndre Yedlin also still at the club. The Spaniard impressed in pre-season, and started the Premier League opener against Arsenal, but has since lost his position to Krafth, and any potential move could depend on how Manquillo views his place at St James’ Park. The 25-year-old has started 33 games combined in the past three seasons and will be expecting the same this campaign – in what will be the deciding factor on any decision.
