Newcastle United are looking at Bournemouth attacker Jordan Ibe, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper claims that the Magpies are in the hunt for the 23-year-old wide-forward and that he could be available this week.

Ibe, who earns £38,000-a-week at the Cherries (Source: Spotrac), played 19 times in the Premier League last season and racked up one goal as well as one assist in his outings.

OPINION

This would be an uninspired signing as Ibe hardly looks like being the clinical forward that the Magpies are screaming out for. The 23-year-old winger has managed only four goals and 10 assists in the 117 Premier League appearances he has made in his career so far. While Ibe has a tremendous amount of Premier League experience for someone his age, his record in front of goal should see the Magpies steer clear. However, seeing as The Sun believe Ibe could be available to sign before the transfer window shuts, perhaps Steve Bruce is targetting him as it could be an easy deal to wrap up with time running out to get business done. Ibe, who averaged a goal every 376 across all competitions last season (Source: BBC), does have decent pace but it’s hard to see Bruce having a magic wand up his sleeve that can make his end product better. The winger averaged a pass completion rate of 78% last season, as per WhoScored, and he managed to only play five accurate long balls in his latest league campaign which seems awfully low for a creative player (Source: Premier League).
