Many were thrilled over a report by The Times that claimed were in talks with midfielder about giving him a new deal. The national newspaper claimed that the 21-year-old could expect to earn a wage similar to if he agrees to a new deal, as his new contract could be worth in the region of £80,000-a-week. While that seems like a lot of money to pay a 21-year-old who has only made 14 appearances for the first-team, that didn’t stop many Newcastle fans being happy that the club were trying to give the player a bumper new deal. One Newcastle fan pointed out £80,000-a-week was the going rate for quality midfielders, while another claimed it was amazing news and that they personally hoped the deal was a six-year contract that had no release clause. Based on this, it’s easy to see that the North Shields-born midfielder has already wiggled his way into the hearts of supporters, and it’ll be interesting to see how he does this . Longstaff struggled in his team’s opener against as he achieved only a rating of 6.30 with only 69.2% of his passes finding their mark (Source: WhoScored), and if wants to keeps fans on his side, then he needs to up his game.
