Sam Allardyce predicted Newcastle United to finish somewhere between 10th and 12th in the upcoming Premier League season.

The former Magpies boss shared his prediction for the Magpies after being told they were in the betting to be relegated, and made clear he didn’t think they were in danger.

Allardyce added that the Magpies’ Premier League finish depended on how they start the campaign and pointed they usually they enjoyed a good spell in the league from January onwards.

“I think they will be about 10th, 11th,12th, 10th will be another good season,” said Allardyce on talkSPORT (8:36am, Wednesday, August 7th).

“Depends on the start.

“They’ve had two difficult starts in the last two campaigns and have come in really strong after January which y’know, always difficult to get the fans on your side if you get off to a difficult start.”

OPINION

Allardyce wasn’t overly popular during his spell as manager of Newcastle, but his prediction will surely go down a treat. Not only does he believe the Magpies will steer clear of relegation, he believes they will do it in style as he suggests a top-ten finish is on the cards. Newcastle finished 13th last season and 10th the season before under Rafa Benitez, so it’ll be interesting if Bruce can do as well as the Spanish manager. Newcastle have made a few notable signings this summer, see Joeltinon and Allan Saint-Maximin for more details, but no longer have their top-two goalscorers from their 2018/19 season on their books. Ayoze Perez was sold to Leicester City while Salomon Rondon’s loan from West Bromwich Albion came to an end.  The pair scored 25 goals between them, so it’ll be interesting to see how the Magpies cope without them. It does seem like a lot of pressure will likely be put on Joelinton to score the goals, as the Magpies broke their transfer record for him (Source: BBC), and hopefully, he is able to cope.
