Jamie Redknapp has picked Newcastle United duo Joelinton and Paul Dummett in his team of the week.
The Magpies’ duo were both impressive as Steve Bruce picked up his first three points in charge of the club with a hard-fought 1-0 victory away to Tottenham on Sunday.
Redknapp singled out the two Newcastle players in his Daily Mail team of the week column after Joelinton’s goal in the first half was enough for the win.
Dummett earned man of the match for his performance in the heart of the defence, managing to keep the prolific Harry Kane relatively quiet through the majority of the contest.
OPINION
Not many people would have expected Newcastle to travel to the capital and come away with all three points on Sunday, especially after their dismal start to the season. In all honesty, Bruce’s side thoroughly deserved the win against Spurs, who struggled to create many clear-cut chances against the Magpies, who were resolute in defence all afternoon. Dummett did his job perfectly and fully deserved of the man of the match award – as he made 12 clearances in total [WhoScored], that’s double the number of clearances than he completed in the first two games of the season combined. Joelinton will have been relieved to have scored his first goal for the club on top of that and did brilliantly in the process of doing that. The Brazilian has been isolated for the majority of his first three games for the club and worked wonders to control and finish his chance to score against Spurs in the penalty area. If the striker continues to do that, he could easily hit double figures in his first season at St James’ Park.
