Alan Shearer has taken to Twitter to praise Newcastle United trio Joelinton, Miguel Almiron, and Paul Dummett after the Toon Army’s 1-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

Steve Bruce picked up his first win as United manager thanks to a first half strike from record signing Joelinton, and Shearer was eager to hail certain members of the Magpies’ side.

Writing on his personal account, he said: “So many impressive performances today.

“Dummett, Joelinton, Almiron all magnificent.

“Set up worked to perfection.”

OPINION

Credit where credit is due, this was a vastly improved Newcastle performance. After a couple of false start over the opening fortnight of the season, the Toon Army really kicked on in the capital and put in a resolute display. Props should be given to a whole host of players, but it was Dummett who really caught the eye. The 27-year-old put in a man of the match display against Spurs, making 12 clearances, as per Sky Sports. This was always going to be a game that demanded a real ruthless defensive streak if United were to get anything from it, and the centre-back stepped up to the plate and then some. If he can keep on putting in displays like this one then the Magpies will concede far fewer goals, and if they can do that, then ultimately they will have a vastly improved chance of avoiding that dreaded drop.
