OGC Nice forward Allan Saint-Maximin is on the verge of signing for Newcastle United after signing a six-year contract with the Tyneside club, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday that the 22-year-old’s arrival at St James’ Park will be made official imminently after he put pen to paper.

Newcastle confirmed Jetro Willems’ arrival on loan from Frankfurt earlier on Friday and it would seem as though another signing is set to be confirmed by the Premier League club.

OPINION

Newcastle are in no mood to wait around now that we are in the final week of the transfer window. Everything moved rather fast in their swoop for Dutch left-back Willems and while it has taken slightly longer to get a deal over the line for Saint-Maximin, it would appear as though it shouldn’t take too long before the transfer is officially announced by the clubs involved. Newcastle have made some good signings this summer but it seems as though they have gone in for players that they have been linked with for a long time. Is that because Steve Bruce is finally letting Lee Charnley and Mike Ashley get who they want in? As before Rafa Benitez left, it seemed like most signings that were made were signed off by the Spaniard. Now Bruce is in, Joelinton, Willems and, almost, Saint-Maximin have arrived at St James’ Park. It does not help back up Bruce’s claims that he is not a yes man.
