Allan Saint-Maximin’s switch to Newcastle United could be confirmed later today [Friday], according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Friday [11:32am] that the OGC Nice forward, 22, arrived at Newcastle’s training ground this morning ahead of completing a £16.4million move to the Premier League side.

Saint-Maximin has already been pictured in the North-East and the transfer looks set to be wrapped up very soon.

OPINION

Newcastle fans are in for a busy few days because Saint-Maximin is unlikely to be on the only new player that Steve Bruce adds to his squad between now and the end of the transfer window next Thursday. Saint-Maximin should be a good signing for Newcastle. He can play in multiple attacking positions and is likely to fill the void left by Ayoze Perez when he left to join Leicester for £30million earlier in the summer. As Saint-Maximin looks as though he’s joining Newcastle for less than £20million, Bruce still should have plenty of money to spend as the Magpies have made a profit on their transfers in the last few windows. Joelinton’s £40million move has obviously made a dent but Mike Ashley must see that if he does not invest in this squad then it is a squad that could be getting ready to play in the Championship in a years time. Saint-Maximin did well in France and last season he scored six goals and supplied five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for Patrick Vieira’s Nice. Can he replicate that form in the Premier League? The Geordies will certainly hope so.
