Steve Bruce has confirmed that Newcastle United forward Allan Saint-Maximin has suffered a reoccurrence of a hamstring injury.
The French winger made his first start for the Magpies since arriving from OGC Nice and was forced off midway through the first half in Sunday’s 1-0 win against Tottenham.
Bruce revealed after the game as quoted by the Shields Gazette that Saint-Maximin’s injury was a “nightmare” situation for the Tyneside club.
“Saint-Maximin’s a recurrence of a hamstring, and that’s a nightmare for us, unfortunately,” he said.
The 22-year-old shone off the bench against Arsenal on the first day of the season but missed the clash against Norwich City due to injury – something he appeared to have recovered from before Sunday’s game.

To see Saint-Maximin starting on Sunday would have been great for all Newcastle fans, who will have been chomping at the bit to see their new exciting winger from the beginning for the first time. His cameo against Arsenal would have left everyone involved drooling over finally having a player that can square up his opposition defender and beat him with ease. Saint-Maximin has only managed 40 minutes in the Premier League but has impressed, completing a couple of dribbles and also registering an impressive 100% pass success rate according to WhoScored. Switching to three in attack rather than two made Newcastle much more dangerous, and Bruce would have been hoping that Saint-Maximin could cement his place in the side – with a reoccurring injury surely leading to an extended spell on the sidelines to make sure he is fully fit once he returns to the first-team setup, something that will most likely take a few weeks.
