Salomon Rondon has sent a jokey Instagram message to Federico Fernandez after the Newcastle United defender posted an image of himself in training.

Rondon may have left Newcastle at the end of last season when his loan deal on Tyneside expired, but it would seem as though the popular Venezuelan is still keeping in touch with his former team-mates at St James’ Park.

Fernandez uploaded an image of him and Yoshinori Muto challenging for the ball via his personal Instagram account on Wednesday, to which Rondon responded: “Dale, nariz.”

Rondon’s Spanish message is loosely translated to ‘go on, nose’ in what seems to be a joke about the Argentine centre-back’s appearance.

OPINION

Rondon was a very popular player in England. Even though he never really set the Premier League alight at West Brom, their fans respected him and he received adulation from fans across England for the way he dealt with accidentally breaking James McCarthy’s leg and his catch to stop DeAndre Yedlin falling from height when the USA right-back was at Sunderland. It appears as though he was popular with Newcastle’s players while he was on loan at St James’ last term. His Instagram message to Fernandez just shows the relationship he had with his fellow South American as it’s clearly a bit of dressing room banter that they must have shared between them. It must be hard for him to settle down in a similar way now he’s at Dalian Yifeng as most of their players are Chinese and it might be too soon for him to have learnt the language. Rafa Benitez is there for him though.
