Newcastle United are not yet done with their transfer business despite confirming the arrivals of Jetro Willems and Allan Saint-Maximin on Friday, according to Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday that the Magpies still want to sign a new right-back and a new striker before the summer transfer window slams shut at 5pm next Thursday.

Ryder adds that one of Newcastle’s central midfielder could also be on their way out of St James’ Park in the coming days.

OPINION

Newcastle fans probably won’t mind which central midfielder leaves the club in the coming days – as long as it’s not Sean Longstaff. Manchester United have been linked with Longstaff pretty much all summer and cashing in on him would be a massive mistake by the North-East club. Isaac Hayden has not hit his desire to leave Tyneside to be closer to his family in London so if anyone does go, for non-football related reasons, fans might hope that it’s him just so he can get his wishes granted. Jonjo Shelvey is another one who has a good transfer value but nobody seems to have any serious interest in the former Liverpool midfielder. Newcastle shouldn’t get rid of one of their central midfielders unless they have to. Although their right-back area is a weak point, it might be better to stick with what they have in the midfield than cash in on someone so they can afford an upgrade on DeAndre Yedlin and Javier Manquillo. Maybe a couple of loan signings or still on the cards.
