Amiens defender Emil Krafth is set to sign for Newcastle United this week, according to Courrier Picard.

The French outlet claim that after having a first offer rejected for the Swedish international, Newcastle progressed in talks with the Ligue 1 club which has seen them reach a deal.

Courrier Picard report that Krafth missed Amiens’ friendly against Leganes on Saturday knowing the English deadline to complete the transfer is on Thursday.

Krafth will complete his second move of the summer window if announced at St James’ Park, after turning his loan spell into a permanent one at Amiens at the beginning of July.

OPINION

Steve Bruce finally looks set to get his man with Krafth having attracted a lot of attention from Newcastle in this window. The Swedish international reiterated the fact that he wanted to move to the Premier League this summer after Newcastle were reported by the Sun to have had a £4.5million offer rejected for the 25-year-old. With DeAndre Yedlin still recovering from the surgery he underwent at the end of last season, Javier Manquillo is the only senior right-back ready at the club. The Swede will bring great squad depth in defence for Newcastle, especially after the arrival of Jetro Willems, which will see them have at least a couple of options in each position at the back. Krafth has played in the major leagues of both France and Italy in his career and is set to add a third. Last season, the experienced full-back averaged 1.6 tackles and 2.3 clearances each game [WhoScored] and will add some much-needed solidarity to Bruce’s set-up, with a deal surely set to be confirmed in the coming days
