OPINION

Newcastle United are doing their very best double decker bus impression this summer. After no signings for weeks and weeks on end, the Magpies haver finally got their act together and making deals left, right, and centre. Last week it was Joelinton from Hoffenheim, and then youngsters Kyle Scott and Jake Turner, now it’s potential moves for Allan Saint-Maximin, as reported by Sky Sports, and full-back Jetro Willems, as reported by the Chronicle. But the Toon Army don’t plan on stopping there. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, United are keen on young Argentinean striker Facundo Colidio, a 19-year-old who currently plies his trade for Inter Milan. The report suggests that Newcastle are beating Leeds United in the race for the starlet, and that they could look to strike a loan-to-buy deal with the Italian giants. Clearly the lad has a lot of pedigree, having also played for Boca Juniors’ youth sides, and a shedload of potential. He may not have made his senior bow over in Italy, but he hit an impressive 12 goals and six assists in 31 appearances for Inter’s youth system last season, and he promises to keep on getting better and better. The Magpies are in need of back-up up front, with Joelinton, Dwight Gayle, and Yoshinori Muto their only senior options at the moment, and while Colidio wouldn’t necessarily challenge for a starting role straight away, he could be a very shrewd piece of business for desperate times and the future.
