OPINION
Jetro Willems’ debut for Newcastle United was one that will be remembered by supporters for all the wrong reasons. As soon as the 25-year-old replaced Jonjo Shelvey he seemed to be completed lost, as though he had no idea which position he was supposed to play in. After a bit of time passed by he eventually move to the left wing-back position and Matt Ritchie switched into the middle. However not long after that, Willems was caught napping and was at fault for a loss of possession that resulted in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring for Arsenal. You cannot blame the Newcastle supporters on Twitter for destroying the on-loan Dutchman for the first few minutes of his Premier League career. It was terrible and top players shouldn’t be making those kinds of mistakes. It’s still early days though and Willems does have time to improve, so those fans calling for the left-back to be sent back to Frankfurt are being a bit too brutal. Hopefully there’s an improvement by him in the coming weeks.
