OPINION
Miguel Almiron may have looked lively in the first half against Arsenal but the Newcastle United attacker has rightly been ripped to shreds on Twitter for a desperate attempt to win a penalty. VAR was not needed on this occasion as Martin Atkinson correctly booked the Paraguay international for a dive inside the away side’s penalty area. There’s simply no point in diving anymore with VAR around because even if the referee had fallen for Almiron’s simulation, it would have just been ruled out after the replays were checked. VAR is something that is being criticised a lot by supporters but when it’s stopping players from diving or cheating, then it has to be applauded. Almiron looked decent except for that silly moment. He was good on the ball, showed great pace and proved to be a real handful for Arsenal’s defence. Unfortunately, people will be talking about his dive after the match and not his strong performance.

How can he be so stupid? Even if the ref gives it it’s going to be overturned
