OPINION

It was sunny in East Anglia as Newcastle made the long trip to Norwich, but that was about as bright as it got for the Magpies’, as they slouched to a 3-1 defeat at Carrow Road. Steve Bruce’s side were ripped apart by the newly-promoted side, and despite creating some clear chances – they were fully deserved of the thrashing they received. Teemu Pukki scored a hattrick before Jonjo Shelvey scored a consolation goal in injury time. It was Newcastle’s midfield that struggled, with Bruce electing for a three-man system, with Isaac Hayden and Ki-Sung Yueng either side of Shelvey, a style that was exploited as there were too many gaps in the heart of his system. Hayden was one of the only players to receive praise for his performance on Saturday, with his non-stop work rate and tenacity not going unnoticed by the Newcastle faithful. Many Newcastle fans took to Twitter after the game to sing the praises of the 24-year-old, with one fan even suggesting he could get a call up to the England side this season if he continues to improve – something that is surely a long way away if he isn’t helped by his teammates in future games.
