OPINION
It just feels as if Newcastle United’s transfer window has gone up a gear or two over the past couple of days. After bringing in Joelinton early last week, the Magpies seem to have put their foot down a little, and are being linked with just about anybody you can think of at the moment. Obviously, some of those rumours feel more likely to happen than others, but one that has caught the eye, and that seems almost certain to go through is a potential swoop for Allan Saint-Maximin. As reported by Sky Sports News, a deal worth an initial £16.5 million, rising to £20 million, has been agreed, and it is understood that a switch is close. And that suggestion will only have been intensified by an actual sighting of the player at the Toon Army’s training ground on Friday. As shared by Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder on Twitter, the photograph clearly shows the distinctive 22-year-old on his signature Gucci headband, and a confirmation of his signing must surely be in the offing. If Saint-Maximin can replicate the kind of form that he showed in France last year, he will be a huge hit on Tyneside. An average of 4.2 successful dribbles per match, plus 2.2 shots on goal and 1.7 key passes per game, as per Whoscored, show he is a real live wire, and exactly the sort of mercurial talent the Magpies have been crying out for.
