One of those positives was the performance of Hayden, who always looked completely on top of things in the middle of the park. Bruce played Hayden on the right-hand side of his midfield and while it’s not Hayden’s most comfortable area, the former Arsenal man definitely enjoyed his outing against his former club. Newcastle on Twitter were understandably blown away by the midfielder’s display and it’s hard to disagree with the one supporter who claimed that he was the ’ best player in the match. Hayden was making noises about leaving St James’ Park last season but Newcastle are so lucky that he ended up staying put.
