OPINION

Matt Ritchie was not at his best in the first half against Leicester. Although the Newcastle United winger was showing his leadership qualities by barking orders at his team-mates for most of the opening 45 minutes, it was ultimately his fault that Leicester went ahead in the Carabao Cup second round tie. Ritchie turned his back on James Maddison’s free-kick and the ball deflected off his head to take it past Karl Darlow in the Magpies goal. Understandably, some Newcastle fans on Twitter are livid with the former Bournemouth player for his performance in the opening 45 minutes. As well as the goal, Ritchie was booked and gave away a couple of fouls that led to free-kicks in dangerous positions for Leicester. Ritchie went off injured just before half-time after being on the receiving end of a tough challenge by a Leicester player so hopefully the Magpies can regroup without him on the pitch, especially as Christian Atsu is now on the pitch.
