Newcastle United’s swoop to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Stanley Nsoki has hit the skids after failing to agree personal terms with the 20-year-old, according to Le Parisien.
The French newspaper claims that although the Magpies have agreed a £10.2million fee, plus a 15 per cent resale clause, with PSG, they are struggling to clinch an agreement with the player.
It is understood that the deal to bring Nsoki to Tyneside is now on stand-by but could be restarted by Newcastle if they were to table a bigger offer to the French defender.
OPINION
Nsoki is a good young player who has a lot of potential so it is not a surprise to see Newcastle being willing to pay over £10million for the versatile defender. Nsoki can play in the centre of defence, at left-back or even in the midfield so he is someone who could be a good addition at St James’ Park who has the ability to go on and become a good Premier League player. However if the Magpies are failing to agree personal terms with a young player who has limited experience – should they want him? Nsoki played just 12 times in Ligue 1 last season for PSG and based on how the French giants splash the cash on high-profile signings, he may find it very difficult to ever break into the first team on a regular basis at the Parc des Princes. At Newcastle it would be different. Mike Ashley wouldn’t want to spend over £10millin on a player who isn’t going to play so surely the plan was for Nsoki to play a key role at St James’ Park next season. It does not seem as though this deal will happen now though, unless the Magpies up their offer for the 20-year-old.
