Newcastle United are close to agreeing a £5million deal with French side Amiens for right back Emil Krafth, according to The Northern Echo.

The newspaper claims that a deal of around £5million is almost settled between the two teams, with the Swedish international having already agreed the framework of his personal terms with the Magpies.

Advanced negotiations are expected to continue at pace on Wednesday morning, and the 25-year-old could even arrive for a medical on Tyneside on Wednesday, as well.

The deal for Krafth is expected to complete new boss Steve Bruce’s defensive reinforcements this summer, with left back Jetro Willems having arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt last week.

OPINION

Well, it certainly seems as if a breakthrough has been made in Newcastle’s negotiations with Amiens, and all that’s needed now is for the club to put the final details in place before officially announcing his signing sometime before Thursday’s 5pm transfer deadline. The good thing is that personal terms have essentially already been agreed by the sounds of it, meaning that once all the payments have been sorted out with the Ligue 1 outfit, Newcastle will be able to press ahead in earnest with a medical for the Swedish star. The club have needed a fresh pair of legs at right back for some time now, with starter DeAndre Yedlin enduring a difficult season last time out, where he eventually lost his starting spot to Javier Manquillo. So there has been scope for a new right back to come in all summer long, and now it seems like Bruce has got his man in the form of Krafth.
