Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy has completed a loan move to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls shared the news via their official Twitter account shortly before the 5pm transfer deadline on Thursday.

The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season out on loan at West Brom, registering two goals in 13 appearances.

OPINION

This move is a real win-win for everybody involved. On the one hand, Newcastle are getting rid of a player who has little chance of troubling their first team this season, and it also allows them to bring their squad size down with the Premier League’s 25-man limit hanging over their head. From the player’s point of view, he gets to go out and play at a club that will be well suited to him and that will offer him more opportunities to prove his quality at a high level. For Wednesday, they are getting a dangerous player who registered an average of 1.7 successful dribbles per 90 minutes last season, as well as 2.4 shots on goal per 90, as per Whoscored. Murphy has never really looked as if he could cut it in the Premier League, so having him off the books this term could be a real positive for Steve Bruce.
