Newcastle United look set to miss out on Inter Milan centre-forward Facundo Colidio, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Sky Sports Italy journalist claims via his personal website that Leeds United have stolen a march on Newcastle in the chase to sign the 19-year-old and could even wrap up the deal to sign him today (Monday).

It is understood that Leeds are still negotiating the transfer with Inter Milan but it seems as though the two clubs are on the verge of an agreement with one another.

Colidio is yet to make a senior appearance in his career but is a highly-rated teenager who has nine caps for Argentina’s Under-20s.

OPINION

It remains to be seen whether or not this is a blow for Newcastle United because although Colidio is someone who has plenty of potential, it might be better off for Steve Bruce to look into buying players who can make an impact in the first-team now, rather than in a couple of years. Colidio was in good form for Inter’s youth sides last season, scoring 12 goals in 31 appearances. In those, he netted one goal in each of his UEFA Youth League outings, putting the likes of Tottenham and Barcelona to the sword. Football Insider has recently reported that Marcelo Bielsa sees a lot of potential in Colidio so it will be interesting to see whether the Leeds boss will be right about his fellow Argentine. Playing in the Championship for an Argentine manager who has put his faith in youth at Elland Road is perhaps the better option for Colidio right now than barely playing in the Premier League for Bruce.
