Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce will surely feel like the writing is on the wall after Jason Cundy couldn’t envision the 58-year-old’s spell at the Magpies getting any better.

The former Chelsea defender pointed out that Bruce wasn’t getting the support of fans, dubbed the Magpies a disaster and even admitted that while he did fear for the Magpies boss, he just didn’t think he had a squad capable of helping him do anything outstanding at Newcastle.

“No, it wasn’t a very popular decision and it remains that way,” said Cundy on talkSPORT (8:39am, Sunday, August 25th).

“They’re a disaster Newcastle, aren’t they? Whatever manager they seem to have in place, they always have something going on as it comes from the top with Mike Ashley.

“I feel Bruce, I can’t see him doing anything outstanding at Newcastle, he had transfer funds, the squad itself is not the strongest and he’s in a hiding to nothing.

“Of course he had to take the job, he’s not going to turn that down and I kind of fear for Newcastle and Steve Bruce this season.”

It’s fair to say Bruce was already feeling the pressure at the Magpies ahead of Cundy’s verdict after his side lost 1-0 to Arsenal and 3-1 to Norwich City, but probably felt like he could turn it around.

Cundy seems convinced there’s not much Bruce can do in order to bring success to the Magpies as not only does he claim that he is in a hiding to nothing, he points out the problems all stem from Magpies owner Mike Ashley, and the businessman doesn’t appear to be going anywhere.

Another reason why Cundy’s remarks, in particular, will hit a nerve with Bruce is that the pundit was actually reluctant to predict Newcastle to go down at the start of August.

When asked who he thought would get relegated from the Premier League on August 4th onĀ  talkSPORT (12:44), he reluctantly tipped the Magpies on the sole basis that they may find it tricky to score goals after losing Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez.

So the fact he is now using words like “disaster” shows how the Magpies’ problems are bigger than he expected and that just spells bad news for Bruce.

Newcastle are set to face Tottenham on Sunday afternoon and given the Magpies have lost their last four games with the London club, as per 11vs11.com, the chances of Bruce recording a good result seem slim.
