Newcastle United players Jack Colback, Henri Saivet, Jamie Sterry, and Achraf Lazaar have been named as four possible departures this week by the Chronicle.

The newspaper claim on their website that the four Magpies players could either be sold or loaned out by the end of the week with the transfer deadline day now on Thursday.

The Chronicle report that midfielder Colback is determined to remain at St James’ Park and fight for his spot under new manager Steve Bruce.

Newcastle’s 25-man squad for the season will be revealed before their Premier League opener with Arsenal on Sunday, with the future of some squad members still on the line.

OPINION

This comes as no real surprise that Newcastle could be deliberating on the future of certain squad players, and especially these four. This group of players have all failed to make a real impact at St James’ Park in recent years, with Colback and Lazaar both spent last season on loan in the Championship whereas Sterry spent the season in the club’s academy. Saivet was on loan in Turkey last season and was one of the players who failed to make an appearance at the beginning of pre-season, which could have put him behind the progress of other midfielders at the club. Newcastle have started making moves in the market, and that could put them in a position where they need to sanction the possible exits of some of their squad. Bruces’ side have gotten stronger as pre-season has continued and only Sterry made the squad for their final friendly on Saturday – a clue that the squad is ready and the mentioned four will not be missed.
