Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce wants one more signing before the transfer declined passes at 5pm tomorrow, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.

The Magpies are understood to be on the cusp of wrapping up a deal for Swedish full-back Emil Krafth, with Downie also reporting that the 25-year-old is on Tyneside for his medical.

But the reporter has claimed that new boss Bruce doesn’t want his summer spending to end there.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Emil Krafth has undergone his Newcastle medical.

“Steve Bruce still hoping for one more before 5pm tomorrow.”

OPINION

Credit where credit is due, Bruce has come in and shown some ambition in the transfer market. Whether that is because he genuinely wanted the targets he has acquired, or whether that is because he has been allowed to show that ambition by Mike Ashley is up for discussion, but at the very least, the Toon Army are bringing in players. Does that mean that the fanbase should forget everything has gone before? Absolutely not. The fear for those supporters who have made the sacrifice of a season ticket run a bid to get rid of the controversial owner is that too many of their mates will be tempted back to St. James’ Park by the promise of a flying winger or a Brazilian striker. If the Toon Army are to ever rid themselves of their burdensome ownership then they need to realise that there will have to be short term sacrifices if they are to achieve long term success.
