Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback has been pictured on the club’s official website in training ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Leicester City.

The 29-year-old, who has made 102 appearances for the club [Source: Transfermarkt], can be clearly seen in the 12th of 30 photographs in the gallery.

This despite the former Sunderland man failing to feature so far in the 2019/20 season, having missed out on Steve Bruce’s Premier League squad.

However, the rules of the Carabao Cup mean he could still feature against the Foxes.

OPINION

It would be a bit of a surprise, after seeing Colback in action in training here, if the midfielder didn’t make the match day squad for Wednesday’s game. Colback has very much been left on the outside looking in at St James’ Park by Bruce, as he was by former boss Rafael Benitez, despite his over a century of appearances for the club. Clearly he’s not viewed as an integral part of things on Tyneside, and is way behind the likes of Sean Longstaff, Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey in the central midfield pecking order at this moment in time. He didn’t even make the Premier League squad, meaning he’s doing nothing for the next few months as things stand. With that said, it would almost be unfair if Colback didn’t feature against Brendan Rodgers’ side. Everything at the moment, injuries included, would suggest that he will be in the fray, though, at St James’ Park.
