OPINION

This really wasn’t the start that Steve Bruce was hoping for at Newcastle. He angered the fans before the game when he said pre-match that it would be good to nick a result at newly-promoted Norwich, but as it turned out they got a thumping courtesy of a Teemu Pukki hat-trick. One of the worst culprits in black-and-white was Miguel Almiron. The attacker, who signed for £21m in January, was full of running but had zero end product. Incredibly, he didn’t manage to put one cross in all game [wyscout] and didn’t make a single long pass. Worse, he made 54 total actions in the game and was only successful with 26 of them. Newcastle fans are right to be expecting a lot more from the 25-year-old. Almiron also came in for criticism from Alan Shearer on Match of the Day (BBC1, Saturday, 10.30pm), who said: “Almiron hasn’t scored for Newcastle and one of the reasons why is his lack of movement. I spoke earlier about players getting into the box and gambling and he’s got to do that. He’s a forward, Newcastle need him to score and assist.” That was nothing compared to the criticism he got from the Newcastle fans though.
