Newcastle United are reportedly refusing to pay the £20million asking price to sign Hull City attacker Jarrod Bowen.

Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder shared the Magpies’ stance on the Championship winger on Saturday following the club’s 2-1 defeat to Preston North End, and it’s a stance that will surely see them end up kicking themselves.

#nufc are refusing to pay the £20million asking price for Hull’s Jarrod Bowen,” wrote the reporter on his personal Twitter account.

The Northern Echo previously claimed that the Magpies were considering a move for Bowen due to Steve Bruce having a high opinion on him, while the Chronicle recently reported that the player himself would be keen on a move to Tyneside.

Yet despite the player seemingly being eager and Bruce wanting him, once again the Magpies don’t want to pay what is a reasonable asking price for a talented player, and Mike Ashley needs to act by changing his tune over Bowen.

The 22-year-old winger scored 22 goals and assisted four in his 46 appearances last season, averaging a rating of 7.17 (Source: WhoScored), and that campaign wasn’t a fluke for him, as he scored 15 goals while racking up three assists across his 44 outings in his 2017/18 campaign.

Hull City are well within their rights to demand £20million for Bowen when you consider that Leicester City previously paid £24million to sign James Maddison from Norwich City, as per Sky Sports, who were in the Championship at that time, and that worked wonders for them.

Maddison wowed in the Championship to get a Premier League club calling, and you feel Bowen has done the same.

When you consider that Maddison is now worth in the region of £60million, as reported by Football Insider, after one season in the Premier League, who is to say Bowen’s price won’t be in the same range next summer.

If this scenario happens, which is possible as another Premier League club may stump up the fee needed for Bowen this summer, then the Magpies and Ashley will regret not signing him when they had the chance.
