Many Newcastle United fans can breathe a temporary sigh of relief over the future of Miguel Almiron based on journalist Roberto Rojas’ remarks.

The journalist, who works for beINSPORTS USA, tried to reassure Magpies fans that it was unlikely that Almiron would be sold this summer after only playing ten games since arriving in January.

Rojas delivered his verdict on Almiron after a fan tweeted him to claim that Magpies owner Mike Ashley would sell the attacker and even went as far as to say they didn’t think he’d play for the Toon again.

“Highly doubt that Almiron won’t play for Newcastle again. Amid the controversy Mike Ashley possesses, I don’t think a player would be sold only playing ten matches in a span of two months. I’m assuming he’ll get an entire full season under his belt and then we’ll see,” wrote Rojas via his personal Twitter account.

Yet Rojas is spot on to dismiss that fan’s concerns.

It would be very odd, even for Ashley, if Almiron was sold this summer as the Magpies haven’t really seen his value soar just yet nor have they seen the best of him.

The Magpies broke their transfer record to sign the 25-year-old in January by paying £20million for him, as per BBC Sport, but he only managed 10 games for the club before having his season cut short.

Almiron was unable to register a goal or an assist in any of his outings, so it’s unlikely that even Ashley could find a club to take the attacker off his hands for more than the £20million the Magpies invested in him.

The 25-year-old may have shown glimpses of his talents for the Magpies, he impressively averaged 1.9 shots per game in his outings (WhoScored), and may have impressed at the Copa America while representing Paraguay as he assisted two goals in four outings and averaged a match rating of 6.73,  but is that enough to have seen his value improve?

Clearly not.

However while Rojas is right about Almiron’s chance of leaving being slim, he’s also right to suggest the situation could change, by saying “then we’ll see”, next summer depending on how he does in his 2019/20 campaign.

If the 25-year-old wows and Ashley still owns the club then it wouldn’t be a shock if the Magpies cash in.

After all, Ashley showed this summer, he isn’t scared to sell an important player as he sold Ayoze Perez, who was the Magpies’ top scorer, for £30million to Leicester City (Source: BBC).

So with that in mind, Rojas’ verdict on Almiron will have Newcastle fans breathing a sigh of relief but only on a temporary basis as there is a chance his long-term future may not be at St James Park.
