Newcastle United are ready to pay Porto attacker Moussa Marega’s release clause in order to sign him this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

The French news outlet claim that the Magpies and West Ham are willing to meet the 28-year-old’s £26.9million release clause and as a result the centre-forward has never looked closer to sealing a move to the Premier League.

Foot Mercato report that in the next few days the identity of Marega’s next club should become clearer, though state he will make the jump to England.

OPINION

If Newcastle are truly ready to meet Marega’s release clause then Magpies supporters should start getting very excited as he is exactly the type of forward they need. The 28-year-old was involved in 32 goals in his 2018/19 campaign for Porto as he scored 21 goals, while assisting 11 in his 49 outings. Marega proved how good he was with six of those goals and three of those assists coming in his nine appearances in the Champions League. When you consider the Champions League sees Europe’s best clash, for Marega to have such an impressive record in the tournament shows the calibre of player he is. Marega averaged 3.2 shots per game across his 29 league outings in his latest campaign, which shows how formidable he is, and showed his power in the air by winning on average two aerial duels per game (Source: WhoScored). While the 28-year-old isn’t Premier League proven, when you consider that he is a powerful forward and has wowed in Europe, you feel he will take to the league like a duck takes to water. So with that in mind, hopefully, the Magpies are about to beat West Ham to the punch.
