Newcastle United are plotting a move to beat Aston Villa to the services of attacker Harry Wilson, according to Football Insider.

The reliable football outlet claim that Newcastle and Villa are both exploring permanent or loan deals for Wilson, with hoping to trump the Premier League new boys in the race for the Reds winger.

Football Insider report that are yet to make a decision on Wilson’s long-term future at Anfield and are expected to decide the 22-year-old’s future now their pre- tour of America is over.

It is believed that Wilson could find himself down the pecking order at ahead of the new season with their international stars set to return, and it is thought the player wants regular first-team football in the upcoming campaign.

It seems Newcastle are getting ready to make their interest in Wilson concrete, and it shouldn’t really come as a surprise. After all Sky Sports previously reported via Twitter in May that the Magpies were one of the many Premier League teams interested in the Welsh winger. The broadcaster claimed that Wilson was valued at £25million by and given his age, and his impressive season with last season, that’s not a ludicrous price tag. In his 2018/19 campaign, Wilson topped Derby County’s goal-scoring charts by scoring 18 goals in 49 outings for them. In fact, the 22-year-old winger averaged a goal every 220 minutes and saw 53% of his 85 shots hit the target (Source: BBC). When you consider his very promising stats and the fact need to boost their firepower after losing 2018/19 topscorer Ayoze Perez to Leicester City, then pursuing Wilson makes sense. While the winger has never featured in the Premier League, based on how he lit up the last season, then he is worth a gamble. Also given that the Magpies are open to borrowing Wilson, not just signing him permanently, then you feel Steve Bruce’s side have a good chance of getting the winger if decide they don’t want to give up on him completely just yet.
