Newcastle United have told Manchester United that midfielder Sean Longstaff is not for sale this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The sports news outlet claim that the Magpies have revealed to the Red Devils that the 21-year-old will cost more than the £50million they spent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka as that’s how much they value him as being worth.

Sky Sports report that despite Newcastle’s stance on the breakout starlet, Manchester United are still preparing to launch an offer for Longstaff.

The midfield enforcer broke into the first team at St James’ Park under Rafael Benitez and started eight consecutive games before an injury ended his season prematurely in March.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reported to have been preparing a £30million bid recently, an offer way below Newcastle’s suggested valuation.

OPINION

The longer this transfer saga drags on, the more it looks like Longstaff will be staying in the North East this summer. Mike Ashley seems more determined than ever to keep the youngster at St James’ Park, especially having doubled his first valuation of £25million. It would certainly be in the best interests of everyone involved at the club should the box-to-box midfield player stay around. The 21-year-old proved he could be a mainstay for many years to come under any manager last season, both in defence and going forward – especially after averaging a pass success rate of 80.9%, one of the best in the whole of the Newcastle squad. [WhoScored] With fellow midfield option Isaac Hayden expected to leave the club this summer, it is integral that Ashley manages to keep ahold of Longstaff and give his next manager the chance to build a squad around his brightest young options. Longstaff was given a great bid of confidence last season and has received much interest after only a handful of Premier League starts, just imagine what the youngster can do after a full season of top-flight football.
