Rolando Aarons is back amongst the senior training fold at Newcastle United, according to the Chronicle.

The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, and was under the impression that he had no future under Rafa Benitez.

But with the Spaniard gone, it is understood that he will back amongst the action with the senior side when the United squad returns to training today.

OPINION

Things have never quite worked out for Aarons. Despite making his debut back in 2014, the wide man never really followed up on his potential, and through a combination of poor luck and poor timing, he found himself out on his ear at St. James’ Park. A multitude of loan spells have followed, but his time at Wednesday has shown that there is still a player in there waiting to get out. Per 90 minutes at Hillsborough, he made 2.6 successful dribbles and was dispossessed just 1.6 times [Whoscored]. With Kenedy on his way back to Chelsea, there is an opening in the Toon squad for a tricky wide man, and with Benitez out of the equation, this could be Aarons’ opportunity to go in and make a real impression on a new manager. He has the talent, now he just needs a bit of luck and some belief in his abilities.
