Alan Shearer cannot help but laugh over a claim that Newcastle United have agreed a £30million deal to sell Ayoze Perez and that the money will be put back into the club’s transfer budget.

Mike Ashley has made a habit of offloading players and failing to reinvest money into the squad, but according to Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder, the Magpies’ next manager will have £30million added to his next transfer budget with Perez on the verge of a move to the East Midlands.

Newcastle legend Shearer has reacted to that update via his personal Twitter account, and due to his use of laughing-face emojis, it’s not hard to tell that the ex-England forward finds the news hard to believe.

OPINION

Shearer, like pretty much every Newcastle fan, is not expecting to see much of this £30million reinvested into the squad. It wouldn’t be a bad transfer to cash in on Perez for that much money if the next manager was able to spend it on players he wants. But as every Magpie knows by now, Ashley is unlikely to do that and if anything, cash will be spent on quantity rather than quality. With the way it’s looking, it’s quantity that Newcastle will have to look for. Perez is on his way out, Salomon Rondon seems unlikely to return, Sean Longstaff is linked with Manchester United and there are also doubts about Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey’s futures at St James’ Park. Newcastle squad wasn’t that big before the summer, but if this exodus starts to speed up, the club’s next manager will have one massive job on their hands. It all would have been a lot easier if Ashley just gave Rafa Benitez the assurances that he wanted.
