Stewart Robson has warned off appointing Sheffield Wednesday manager Bruce this summer.

The former Arsenal captain delivered his verdict on Bruce, and despite him revealing he believes he is competent, he should not be the man to lead the Magpies forward.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Sunday morning, Robson said: “He’s a competent manager, but he’s not someone you’d say is going to take to the next level, and win over the fans.”

The 58-year-old confirmed in an interview with Sky Sports on Saturday that he had held talks with officials during the past week, as he zones in on taking over his boyhood club.

Sheffield Wednesday were reported by the Sun journalist Alan Nixon to be holding out for a fee that the Yorkshire club are wanting that sum in full.

OPINION

Robson is bang on with his verdict on Bruce and Newcastle, it still appears as a surprise that the Magpies are seriously considering the 58-year-old. The Sheffield Wednesday manager has surely found his level in the Championship, having never had success in the top flight in England. His roots with arch-rivals also makes you scratch your head, no matter if is Bruce’s boyhood club. With his biggest success in football being an FA Cup semi-final, a comparison with Rafa only highlights how much of a step down it is. Bruce is one of only two managers to have managed more than 250 Premier League games and hold a win percentage under 30% – are there any more reasons that highlight how much of a bad decision this would be? must take the advice of Robson, and look elsewhere this summer – with this decision surely the biggest one Ashley will ever make during his time in the North East.
