Newcastle United’s attempt to complete a deal for Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin “has a chance”, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old in recent days, as reported by the Chronicle.

And Nixon believes that a deal is possible.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, when asked about the Toon Army’s interest in the Frenchman, he said: “It has a chance”.

OPINION

This is a promising update for the Magpies. By no means is Nixon saying that a deal is close, but he isn’t ruling it out either. The Sun journalist has a pretty stellar record on this kind of thing, and if he is willing to stick his neck out and say it could happen, then you best believe that it could happen. As for the player himself, the Toon Army would be snapping up a really bright prospect. At 22, Saint-Maximin still has a lot of room to grow, but he is already a brilliantly dangerous talent. With six goals and three assists last term, the Frenchman offers a lot in the final third, and his averages of 4.2 completed dribbles, 2.2 shots on goal, and 1.7 key passes per match last term [Whoscored] show that he is a proper live wire. It feels as if a deal could be creeping ever closer, but as with all things Newcastle-related, it’s best take everything with a pinch of salt.
