The situation at Newcastle United has become more untenable by the day, with the Premier League season creeping around once again.

Mike Ashley is slowly driving the club into the ground as his reign in charge continues, with no new manager confirmed at St James’ Park, alongside the fact that there have been no incomings in terms of players either.

The Magpies are the only Premier League side to not make a signing yet, a real show that their ambitions are seriously lacking for the upcoming season.

Despite the fact that no new faces are set to arrive in North East, the Shields Gazette have revealed that the Magpies would like to complete six new signings this summer in a bid to improve on last year’s efforts under Benitez.

Newcastle are reported to want to bring in two new forwards, a couple of full-backs, a winger, and a goalkeeper before the transfer window shuts in less than a month’s time.

This report only highlights the dire straits the Magpies are in going into pre-season, and the desperate need to improve almost every area in their squad.

Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez have both departed the club, with the two scoring 23 goals of the club’s total of 42 – more than 50% of the club’s tally.

With the Daily Mail claiming that Dubravka is the centre of attention of a number of Premier League clubs such as Tottenham – it is no surprise the Magpies want a new stopper.

Ashley only just broke the transfer record at Newcastle this year, 14 years after the signing of Michael Owen in 2005, which only adds doubt to whether or not these six signings will be granted.

Whoever the new manager is set to be, they will have a huge task to turn around Newcastle’s fortunes – with this report only highlighting the trouble they are set to encounter.
