Mike Ashley was reported by the Sun to have offered £4million to gain the services of Bruce on Monday, with the Yorkshire club yet to respond.
The Sun journalist Nixon revealed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning that Newcastle are yet to hear back from the Championship club. Nixon wrote: “Worth noting that Newcastle offer for Bruce AND his team has yet to be accepted by Chansiri.”
Sheff Wed. Worth noting that Newcastle offer for Bruce AND his team has yet to be accepted by Chansiri … list of possible managers exists but not acted on.
This deal isn’t going to be as straight forward as once predicted. After it was reported that Ashley had offered the £4million, many fans will have expected that Bruce was all but confirmed to be their next manager. The fact that Newcastle are still waiting to hear back from the Yorkshire club could put the move at risk. This could mean that Bruce might not be the man to take over at St James’ Park, something that would surely delight Newcastle fans. The 58-year-old has proved that he is a Championship level manager in recent years, and has never tasted success in the top flight, with his biggest achievement being an FA Cup semi-final. He is also one of only two managers to take charge of over 250 top-flight games and have a win percentage of less than 30%. Newcastle must not put all their eggs in one basket with Bruce, and certainly, be prepared to explore other options this summer.
